About Game = Batman: Arkham Origins is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by WB Games Montreal and published by Warner Bruce Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it follows the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City, and is the third installment in the Batman: Arkham series. Written by Corey May, Ryan Galita and Duma Wandsucho, the main story of the game is set five years before the 2009 Batman: Arkham Asylum and features a lesser, lesser batsman, Batman. Christmas is a grace bestowed on him by the Lord Black Mask, who brought the world's eight greatest murderers to Gautam City on Christmas Eve. The villains, including the Joker and Anarchy, take advantage of the chaos to run nefarious schemes, while Gautam City Police try to catch Batman.
The game is played from a third-person perspective, focusing on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, spy skills, and combat and search gadgets. Batman can freely wander around the open world of Gautama City, interacting with characters and dialogue missions. Apart from the main story, Batman can help the police deal with crime and other vigilantes who terrorize the city. Arkham Origins introduces Batman's ability to rehabilitate crime in practice, allowing him to investigate the scene and identify the culprit. The game is also the first in a series with a multiplayer mode, in which players take part in a gang war between the Joker and Bane.
Development on Arkham Origins began in 2011. WB Games Games Montreal took over the development work from Rockstead Studios, the creator of the series, who was engaged with Batman: Arkham Knight and therefore could not release a new game for a long time. The team chose to make the game a prequel to explore some aspects of Batman's character, such as his weakness and lack of experience, which previous games could not. The story was inspired by the comics comics Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight and "Batman: A Year", with input from author Jeff Johns. The development of the multiplayer mode was handled by the British studio Splash Damage, separating it from the main game.
